I need to confess, it's not easy for me to admit it, but I have been carrying this secret around for several years and it needs to become public. I stink. Rather my workout clothes stink, I am just the catalyst for the sink. Add to that the fact that I still train in the same shorts and top I had when I was getting ready for the Ironman in 2002 and yes, I have a problem. My family has been burdened by it, people close to me at the gym, training partners, anyone close to me. Today is the day that I come out of the smelly closet and say, "hello my name is Dave and my stuff stinks."
I thought there was no cure, no place to turn to rid my gear of the unique body funk that can only be produced by miles and miles of sweat, snot rockets, arm pit stains and the occasional "landing strip." Factor into the equation that I sweat like a fat kid around cake and boom, my clothes are always smelly. It's a pungent potpourri most of us know and have to deal with one way or another.
Instead of doing the obvious, buying new clothes, I have tried many methods to remove my man smell from my favorite garments, including, leaving them outside to air dry, baking soda, holy water and lots and lots of fabric softener. Nothing worked! Eight years of stink is hard to remove, I thought, until I tried WIN High Performance Sports Detergent.
I saw WIN at the store and thought "why not, I can't find a good exorcist for my stinky duds, this could be a cheaper alternative. " One wash was all it took. One frigging wash and all of the weird looks at the gym and avoided hugs from my family could have been avoided.
I thought I had finally lost my ability to smell, but my wife and daughter confirmed that my oldest and nastiest stuff no longer smelled and could actually be worn in public again.
Maybe I am late to this party, I know there are other brands out there, however I can say without a doubt that WIN works, well. If you have funky junk, then WIN is something that you should think about adding to your post-post workout routine. As a side note, we have a baby and WIN is also great for getting that pee/food smell out of his pajamas and clothes.
I checked out washing machine to see of Oompa Loompas had moved in and were working their Ooomp magic on my gear, but the machine was empty. There is no pixie dust, Soylent Green or special brew from the kids Hogwarts in the ingredients, yet it de-funks your clothes lickety split.
This is how they explain it.
WIN Detergent's formula uses a super oxygenated system of hydrogen peroxide to eliminate embedded molecules and odors. Once in a soluble form, the dirt and odor are washed away. WIN is formulated for all colors and fabrics and works in both top-loading and front-loading machines, and for hand washing.
Using a unique technology, Win Detergent's scientifically designed super oxygenated system directly targets offensive odors and stains. This powerful oxy cleaning technology eliminates the embedded sweat molecules and odors that overwhelm the fabric. Simultaneously, these same ingredients also react with soil and organic materials causing them to either decolorize or disintegrate. Once in a soluble form after oxidization, dirt and odors easily wash away.
WIN High Performance Sports Detergent is the official detergent of the U.S Ski Team. I am not sure if the U.S. Ski team stinks more of less than your average age grouper, but it's good to know they are covered. So if you have smelly gear and can't afford to buy new stuff every few months, WIN is worth checking out. I am pretty sure that I can get at least another 5 years out of my shorts and finally say with pride, "hello my name is Dave and I no longer smell."
