I wish it was possible for everyone to have a Media Pass and see the Chicago Triathlon the way I was allowed to see it, it was an amazing experience.
The conversations of the athletes, the looks on their faces as they swam, biked, ran and celebrated. The volunteers, organizers, announcers, sponsors all working insane hours to make sure that every detail was covered and every person had a spot.
To be able to stand in at the swim start and exit and realize that we are all the same, pros and newbies alike: excited, nervous, confused and just a little bit scared. Watching Andy Potts come out of the water and be just a little "googley eyed," made me realize, "hey these guys are human, cool."
Go mom, dad, grandma, bald guy, son, daughter, grandpa, Team In Training, Madness, CES, good, job, you can do it, congratulations! The cheering never stopped, from person #1 to person #9000ish.
Normally I race, I get my stuff, I go home. To be able to see all of you, dig deep, take another stroke, step, pedal and make it across that line, it was a privilege.
With photojournalist Joseph Fitzgerald, we shot over 1000 images, I wish I could share them all, here are a special few.
