We want to sent a special shout out to Greg Andricopulos, newbie triathlete. Greg is an accomplished marathon runner and decided to get into triathlon this year.
Saturday while riding, Greg had an epic wipe out that left his elbow torn to pieces and massive road rash on his leg. The ferocity of this kind of wipe out would have sent mere mortals to the emergency room, but not Greg. Part man of steel, part stubborn ox, Greg had been training for his first Olympic distance race on Sunday and wasn't going to let anything get in his way.
Despite the intense heat and howling winds, Greg made it across the finish line in a little over three hours, "This might have been as hard as any marathon I've done. It was brutal."
Lesson #1 in most endurance sports, make a plan and get ready for it to fall apart, something is always going to go wrong. It can be as small as a crazy wind and intense heat or as big as a massive crash, it's how you recover and keep moving that counts. It's not always how fast you make it across, but the fact that you made it at all.
Welcome to the club Greg.
