Spring is here, and the weather in Chicago couldn't be more beautiful. What's a girl to do on a day like today?
My personal favorite is the Mentos & Diet Coke Geyser Experiment from Steve Spangler Science. I am sure that the last thing you want filling your house or bedroom is a fountain of sticky soda, so this experiment is one you want to be sure to do outside. Science, especially messy science, is the perfect thing for these first warm, sunny days.
Once you've successfully shot Diet Coke all over the backyard, try some of these suggestions... and then share your other favorite warm weather activities!

I love Steve Spangler! You can just use your hands or rolled up paper to drop the Mentos into the bottle. At Michael's Craft Store (and probably other places, but I've seen them at Michael's) you can actually buy a little device (about $5) to drop the Mentos in quickly. The quicker they're dropped, the bigger mess you make! Also, when I did it teaching I had students carry the 2-liter bottles from the classroom to the field...not a good idea. They shook them up too much and we didn't get as big of an explosion with the shaken up bottle.
Steve Spangler sells those little devices too. :) They were my favorite stocking stuffers this year. I am so looking forward to doing this experiment tomorrow!
