Bank of America Supports Local Youth Running Groups, Including Girls on the Run!

This Sunday, 36,000 runners will be crossing their fingers for some sunshine and warm weather for the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle. The 8k (about 5 miles) race is  when all the Chicago runners who have been hiding inside on treadmills all winter come out to brave the weather.

Although this is the 31st annual Shamrock Shuffle, Bank of America is adding something new this year.  From each Shamrock Shuffle and Chicago Marathon entry, $2 will be donated to local youth running programs.  Bank of America is going to match the amount, for a total of $324,000 donated.  The Outside the Girl Box featured Girl Organization of the Month, Girls on the Run and MGR Foundation will each recieve $72,000 in a special presentation at the post-race party on Sunday.

After the Chicago Marathon in October, ChicagoRun and Special Children's Charities/Special Olympics Chicago will each recieve $90,000.  All four organizations are great causes that inspire young people to live healthy, active lifestyles.  To learn more about them, click on their name.

As a participant in both Sunday's Shamrock Shuffle and the Chicago Marathon later this year, I'm excited to know that I'll be contributing to such great causes.
