Sometimes I think finding a place to donate/sell things is actually harder than making the decision to let it go. Once you decide to release your things, there is the choice of donate or sell.
I have seen people call salvation army and let it all go. And on the flip side, I have seen people try to sell every little item they have. There is no right or wrong answer here. Its a personal choice.
By donating your stuff, one call and its gone. You get a tax receipt and you are done with it. Selling stuff is a different animal. Depending on what you have, you might have to utilize different resources.

To sell general items, there is always Craigslist. You can post things free for 7 days. Ebay is another option to sell items.
If you want to just give something away, try freecycle.org. I had a client give me baby gates. I put them on freecycle and had 50 responses in 2 hours.
