10 Years As A Business Owner and Still Sane; Important Tips

Aside from writing this blog, I own a professional organizing business (if you haven't figured it out by now). Today marks the 10th year I have been in business! How did I do it? I am still trying to figure it out! Its been quite the ride.

I feel like I have earned several masters degrees during this time. One in finance, and one in marketing. When you own a small business, you have to wear many hats!

Here are some important tips for any business owner!

*ANSWER THAT PHONE/EMAIL- I have seen way too many people let calls go to voice mail  or not handle email in a quick manner. Many clients price shop. They also will hire the first person that they can get a hold of on the phone or via email. Communicate often and well.

I get emails at all times of the day and night. I answer as quick as possible.

*DAILY TASKS-Every business is different. What does it take to run your business? Identify the tasks you need to do on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.

*NETWORKING-Never take for granted that you are rolling with business. No one will promote your business like you do. Spread the word. Friends will also be your biggest cheerleaders.

*BALANCE-It can be hard to have balance in your life when you run a small business. Give yourself  time off for fun!

*BE ORGANIZED-Time management and organization are so important for a small business owner. If you don't keep on top of things, you will leave money on the table or lose out on business.

*CONTINUE TO EDUCATE YOURSELF-Clients and business associates like to see that you are keeping on top of the trends in your industry.

*BE OPEN TO NEW IDEAS-Well meaning friends and business associates are always going to give you advice. Be open to it. I have learned many things in the last 10 years from other business owners- listen!

Love what you do!! That is the most important thing of owning a business. Live your passion!!
