Yup, I have been slacking on the blog the last week. I worked double days in order to take a little time off this week. One of my dear friends from kindergarten (the forever friends are the best), and her family decided to make the trek up from Texas. And yes, this organizer had some serious prep work to do. We take entertaining very seriously in my family.
It's fun to catch up with friends and show them your city. Here is my plan on how to be the hostess with the mostess and have a great visit!!
Plan, plan, plan!!- Make a list and identify what you need to do before your friends arrive. Get all your errands done before your guests come. Don't waste your precious time, with your friends.
Clean, clean, clean!!- Get your space in tip top shape for your friends visit!
Guest Room/Space-When I have guests, I let them have my big master bedroom and move into the smaller one. Its easier for them to spread their stuff out. I simplify take out the clothes I need for the duration of their visit before them arrive at my home. I also wash the linen, that morning. I like things to be fresh!
Meal Plan Go to the grocery store and stock up. Many times your guests will want to eat out, but make sure that you start off the day with a good meal. I wasn't sure what my friends ate for breakfast, so I set out a few simple things, including homeade muffins! I also made some salsa and got chips for their son to snack on(it ended up being put on our eggs at breakfast).
Activities-I made a list of all the cool stuff to do in Chicago. I also sent my friends a few links to check out before their visit. Remember, to gently help your guests plan stuff. While I am a cultural diva, my friends have been happy taking it easy, shopping, and doing a little light sight seeing. Every night, they pick out the activities that they would like to do the next day. I am the cook, driver, and tour guide.
As I sit writing, they are exploring the field museum. I had to work this morning so I sent them off for a fun morning downtown(all bundled up).
