Current goaltending duo reminiscent of last season's

Blogs aren’t often written mid-game, but Joel Quenneville’s decision to yank Marty Turco less than a minute into the 2nd period inspired me to write something that I’ve been thinking for a long time. Corey Crawford is this team’s best option at goaltender. I know it’d be difficult to find anyone to argue with me... Read more »

Hossa, Hawks steal two points from Blues

I mentioned in my last blog that “some would suggest” Marian Hossa (and Patrick Sharp) have been single handedly winning games for the Blackhawks. On Monday night, there was no question. The Hawks as a collective unit were average from start to finish against St. Louis on Monday night and still came away with a... Read more »

Reality check: Sloppy, injured, out-of-sync Hawks are 3-2-1

There have been glaring weaknesses in this new Blackhawks team through six games.  The defense has been suspect, opponent shots on goal totals have been way too high, and too few players have developed any type of chemistry or consistency. Individually, there have been a few disappointing moments: New goaltender Marty Turco hasn’t been on... Read more »

Blackhawks lineup beginning to take shape

With the Antti Niemi situation settled, the Hawks’ 2010-2011 lineup is much easier to predict. The team can now dress a 21-man roster comfortably under the salary cap. Based on recent signings and comments by General Manager Stan Bowman, here is what the lineup could resemble in October: Kane/Toews/Brouwer Hossa/Sharp/Kopecky Stalberg/Bolland/Makarov Bickell/Dowell/Skille Keith/Seabrook Hjalmarsson/Campbell Hendry/Vishnevskiy... Marty Turco: Already committed to the Indian

There are plenty of reasons to feel good about the Hawks’ addition of veteran goalie Marty Turco. He provides stability, a low cap-hit, and leadership for the young Blackhawks. But above all, there is one reason why Hawks fans should welcome this guy aboard: He genuinely wants to be here. Players say it all the... Read more »

Hawks say goodbye to Niemi, hello to Turco

It has been speculated for weeks, and now it’s official. The Blackhawks have decided to walk away from Antti Niemi’s $2.75 million dollar salary and sign veteran goalie Marty Turco to a 1-year deal. Turco’s cap hit is reportedly very low in the $1.3 million dollar range. The Marty Turco era is underway in Chicago... Read more »

*Most up to date news at bottom of this article* According to WGN’s Dan Roan, the Blackhawks have agreed to a 1-year, $1.75 million dollar deal with free agent goaltender Marty Turco. The signing has not yet been reported by any other sources. Marty Turco is the best stick-handling goaltender in the NHL If true... Read more »

Niemi awarded $2.75 million from arbitrator

The Blackhawks received some good news this afternoon when it was announced that goaltender Antti Niemi received a 1 year, 2.75 million dollar deal at arbitration. This number is much lower than what was expected, as many felt it would be closer to $3.5 mil.  As recently as Saturday morning, Hawks Chairman Rocky Wirtz shared... Read more »

Bowman prepared for all possibilities, with or without Niemi

While we won’t hear any news regarding Antti Niemi’s arbitration hearing until Saturday, Stan Bowman said in a conference call on Thursday evening that the Blackhawks “will try to make it work.” Stan Bowman has been the hardest working GM in sports this summer The most encouraging statement from the call was that the Hawks...
