Ironside Bar & Galley in the River North neighborhood mimics many of the pubs I have visited in Europe. You will immediately appreciate the patio featuring flower boxes, wrought iron accents, and hanging vines. I admire the unique, nautical themed decor, and even though there are numerous TVs, they didn’t make for a loud environment during my visit. Admittedly, this bar wasn’t planned but discovered by happenstance. The outstanding draft lineup lured me in like a kid on Halloween.
I started off with a bang, ordering The Wolf, a rare find from 3 Sheeps Brewing. This Barrel Aged Imperial Stout sits at a whopping 13.5%. It was so smooth and delicious I had to keep reminding myself to sip this one. I couldn’t leave without getting one of my favorites out of Brooklyn, a Sorachi Ace Saison. This Belgian-style Saison has a nice citrus kick thanks to the Sorachi Ace hops.
Ironside offers 16 tantalizing drafts and 33 packaged products. It's certainly tempting to go overboard with the choices, but try not to lose your sea legs. I will definitely be favoring this venue in the future and hope to have enough willpower to save some room for the appetizing food menu.
