I discovered this easygoing watering hole in Buena Park when I lived across the street roughly eight years ago. They make it so effortless to be a repeat customer because it's like hanging out at a friend's house. Bar on Buena (BoB) is open and inviting with garage-style windows and a swell patio that welcomes furry companions. You can get all cozy on a sweet sofa underneath some attractive art.
Aside from the European ambiance, the highlight for me is the beer menu. I can always count on a solid selection of dark beers year round. BoB offers 23 drafts along with 90 bottles/cans. They even have a separate brunch beer menu from 11am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Their beer director sure knows how to pick distinct and tasty brews. https://www.baronbuena.com/beer.html
Per usual, there were so many good ones during my recent visit that it was a daunting task. I started with a Cashmere Hammer, which is a delicious stout by 3 Sheeps Brewing. My second beer was a real winner - 2018 Kentucky Breakfast Stout by Founders Brewing Co. This delectable imperial stout packs a punch at 12.3% ABV.
Fun facts: 1) Bar on Buena is the fulfillment of a dream by two high school friends (Aaron Zacharias and Steve Podjasek) who were sick of corporate life. They wanted to open an inviting neighborhood bar reminiscent of the cafes in Europe while offering a global selection of craft beers that weren't available at any other local bars at the time. After years of searching, they opened BoB on July 5, 2003. 2) Be sure to take a peek at their tiny kitchen, which is visible from the bar.
Hats off to Aaron and Steve for still going strong 15 years later!
