Uptown Lounge is a chill, artsy venue in Uptown with a boatload of craft beer. You might be somewhat bewildered when ordering, given the fact they carry 100+ craft beers with eight of those offered as drafts. The best thing about arriving at 4 pm (when they open) is the ability to get up close and personal with the bartender. Lucky for me, bartender Mike was as easygoing and well informed as they come. Nothing beats talking to an expert about craft beer while drinking it.
I chose a dark and decadent Pinball Wizard Stout by Begyle Brewing. It went down effortlessly, and with a 5% ABV, it was a no-brainer to try something else. Mike recommended an Abbey Belgian Style Dubbel by New Belgium Brewing, which was another winner in my book. Uptown Lounge doesn't have a food menu; however, they will provide you with a bowl of Chex Mix to accompany your beer. The salty mixture paired well with my sweet stout.
Slide into a large, retro booth and watch the action unfold or get ready to boogie. The lounge has a spacious area to show off your moves with tunes provided by DJ Karaoke. Get ready to belt out a few songs every Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. If you're feeling reserved, just have a couple of craft beers to take the edge off.
Uptown Lounge is minutes from the Lawrence Red Line stop, making it the ideal place to mosey to after seeing a show at The Riviera or Aragon Ballroom. Psst - they stay open until 4 am daily with a bonus hour on Saturday.
