Food & Craft Beer Pairing at Estelle's

estellefront

Estelle's is located in that trendy little nook of Bucktown/Wicker Park right near the Damen train station. Walking into Estelle's feels as though you are entering an old-school lounge with its art deco style, mood lighting, and a jukebox.

Estelle's likes to host brewery nights that typically include a brewery rep, swag, and beer sampling. Most recently, they hosted Founders, Tocayo, Two Brothers, and Ravinia. The venue has 16 drafts on tap including three guest beers, as well as a plethora of craft beer in bottles and cans.

pairingmenu

Estelle's added a new menu this year that involves pairing a sandwich or burger with a specific craft beer (no beer substitutions please). Who doesn't love pairing food with craft beer, especially when someone else does all the work? One of the biggest perks of this menu is that it's available until 3 am. What a great nightcap, especially if you're attending a late night concert next door at Subterranean.

I received an invitation from the delightful GM, Ashlee, to come in and sample from this menu. I'm a vegetarian, so it's nice to know you can substitute a veggie patty for any of the burgers. I chose to go with half a Roadhouse and half a Blue Velvet paired with Dale's Pale Ale and Apex Predator. In addition, I sampled two of the sandwiches including Say Cheese and Pep Rally paired with Dayblazer Ale and True Blonde Ale. The food was tasty and the combinations were spot on. I particularly loved the grilled cheese on Texas toast with the "browned" cheese along the edges and the additions to the burgers, especially on the Roadhouse.

Admittedly, I was a bit concerned about the beer selections since I'm a dark beer addict; however, a big thank you to Estelle's for making me see the light. I truly savored all these beers and would order them again, especially with summer around the corner. Summer IS around the corner, isn't it?
