My Addictions (Blogapalooz-Hour)

On the last Wednesday of every month, ChicagoNow bloggers participate in "Blogapalooz-Hour." This is an optional writing exercise in which a topic is given to the bloggers and they have one hour to complete the post. The February 2018 topic: "What are things you can’t go without?"

Here is my first stab at a Blogapalooz-Hour:  I have three addictions that I cannot live without - travel, beer and street art. I became addicted to travel when I joined Couchsurfing approximately 11 years ago. I have always traveled here and there; however, it really became an addiction when I started hosting amazing personalities from around the globe. I have traveled throughout Europe, to Mexico City, and currently making my way through the U.S. (visiting one city in every state). My favorite quote "I'm in love with cities I've never been to and people I've never met."

My second addiction is beer. It used to mainly be a "summer thing." I mean, who doesn't like sitting on a patio in splendid weather throwing back a couple of cold ones?! It has now gotten to the point where I need beer every week, particularly brews that I haven't had before. My favorite styles are stouts and porters. This addiction explains my desire to start "On Tap in the Windy City."

My third and final addiction is street art. I have always been fascinated by murals and got serious after watching Courtney Scott's video of Wynwood Walls in Miami. I have a street art account on Instagram that I am quite proud of, actively seeking out walls every time I travel. I get really enthusiastic when I stumble upon live painting. Admittedly, the most exciting live moment came when I watched Van Holmgren paint an entire mural that included Chris Soules and Whitney Bischoff from The Bachelor. I was the only person who had my eye on the mural and not on the couple canoodling in the bar. Eventually, Chris and Whitney emerged from the bar and posed in front of it.

I have shared my addictions based on tonight's challenge. What are yours?
