Real Men aren't afraid to admit that America has a gun problem

The true character of a man is revealed in times of distress - the division between the man and the boy is alarming, clear-cut, and profound.

Real Men understand that for the right-minded gun owner, a weapon is a last resort. It is only the ill-minded person who is quick to draw their firearm when their conviction and their faith have failed them. For man-boys and the mentally ill, the gun is not a symbol of courage, but one of retaliation and spiritual immaturity. Real Men understand how real the threat becomes when a gun falls into the wrong hands.

A Real Man doesn't feel the need to spend his time or energy distinguishing himself from the cowards.

Real Men know when a principal has been chiseled into a political weapon -its blade of rhetoric sharpened on a wheel of ego and pride so completely that it threatens every man, woman, and child in its path, regardless of which side of the political aisle they run to when the knives start flying.

Any man can agree that fundamentalism can take ahold of any person - regardless of skin color, religion, or race. Real Men recognize this phenomenon when they see it happening.

Real Men can’t be bought. For them, personal integrity is not a commodity. Their moral compass remains faithful to a personal due north, even when the hungry masses are veering right.

Its easy to pay lip service to the idea that the strong must protect the most vulnerable around us, but Real Men actually put themselves in harms way to protect the innocent. Real Men leave the syrupy sentimentality to Lee Greenwood and Toby Keith. They know that true patriotism means taking action, and so Real Men do.

Real Men understand that every right has a corresponding responsibility - that such gifts do not negate their responsibilities as neighbors, family members, or fellow Americans.

  • A breadwinner might have a right to certain freedoms, but not at the expense of his family.
  • The pack leader might have a right to more meat after the kill, but not to the point of starving  the ranks.
  • A general might have the right to the safest bunker, but not if it means deserting his troops.

Real Men understand that the rights of every American are tempered against the greater good of our country: one nation, under God, indivisible. Any great imbalance between our individual rights and our society at large only divides us, and brings harm to our fellow man.

Real Men aren’t afraid to admit that they are wrong, and certainly never hold to an antiquated idea just to save face. Real Men left such socio-political games on the elementary school playground.

Real Men don’t tell women to "pipe down" when they react to children being murdered.

Real Men understand the current political division to be, ultimately, an illusion. They know that all anybody really wants is for their loved ones to be safe, happy, and healthy.

Real Men don’t say “oh well” when children and the disabled are gunned down in America.

Do something, Real Men of the NRA.

That is my piece, and until there is gun reform, there will be no peace. Thank you for taking the time to read my words. It truly means the world to me.
