OFA, Springfield Residents, push Rep.Schock on Immigration Reform (Video/Pictures)

(PICTURES Following Story) On Tuesday, Organizing for Action Springfield, along with many local residents, held an event outside the offices of Rep. Aaron Schock, urging him to support Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Last week of course, the Senate overwhelmingly passed a historic Immigration Reform bill, with both Illinois Senators-including Republican Mark Kirk-voting in favor of the... Read more »

An Open Letter to Republicans: Your Country isn't Coming Back

I’ll be brief… November 6, 2012 That was to be the day you guys  “took the Country back”, the day you “restored America”, the day the aberration that was the Election of Barack Hussein Obama was officially rectified. Well that day came and went, and let me be proudly unequivocal in saying what the events of... Read more »

9 things we're NOT thankful for

THE CASEY ANTHONY JURY: Not sufficient evidence huh? Oh it was all circumstantial…gotcha. I’ll admit, a child being dumped in the woods with duct tape wrapped around its skull/mouth just screams “accidental drowning”. Plus, you can’t expect every parent to report such an accidental drowning right away…it takes time to wrap duct tape around a skull and to dispose of a body…not to mention get a tattoo, shop at target, participate in a “hot body contest”, etc. That said, I hope Casey Anthony enjoys her Thanksgiving, and by enjoy I mean chokes on something.

A Short Tangential Rant

This being a human thing can be a bit maddening. Ya know…if you’re driving and a fellow motorist generously allows you to enter their lane…or stops so that you can turn into their lane (basically makes any thoughtful concession for your benefit) and you don’t acknowledge it-be it by a wave (preferably while smiling) or... GOP Debate Crowd Stays Classy, Boos Gay Soldier

You can always count on the GOP Presidential Debates for a “Wait…did that just happen?” moment. We’ve already seen a debate crowd become sexually aroused over capital punishment. Then there was the sadistic, emphatic call for death regarding   a  hypothetical 30 year old man who is dying but uninsured. Then came yesterday. When candidate, “wait who’s... Read more »

"Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely"

“Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education”. Franklin D. Roosevelt  An idea which seems so basic, so simple to comprehend in terms of its importance, and yet Americans fail to meet this fundamental ideal. When in the voting booth-that is... Read more »

Lies Where Credit is Due: How the Right Responds to the Accomplishments of President Obama

Lies Where Credit is Due: How the Right Responds to the Accomplishments of President Obama
It has been nine days since President Obama fulfilled the nearly decade old “dead or alive” promise which George W. Bush made regarding Osama Bin Laden. What have we learned in those nine days? What we already knew-no matter his historic accomplishment, no matter the public good, regardless of National interest and in spite of public... Read more »

Decoding the Rhetoric- What the Right is Really Saying

Decoding the Rhetoric- What the Right is Really Saying
For around two and half years now, we’ve witnessed the far right wing make a rather ineffective, or perhaps better but, half-hearted attempt at encrypting their general message. They’ve felt comfortable saying things like “The President isn’t one of us”, or “The President has a different world view from you” -you know, the loaded statements... Read more »
