Is it just me, or has it been way too long since we've had a good old fashioned rock scandal?
Not like a Rock 'n' Roll scandal...but a scandal involving a rock.
Well this weekend we got our fix.
The Washington Post reported on Saturday , that in the early days of his political career in Texas, Rick Perry leased a West Texas hunting camp whose entrance was marked by a large rock bearing the racial epithet N_ _ _ _ _HEAD.
Now it should be noted that Perry and his family did not "name the ranch", and hence did not put the beyond vile word on the rock themselves. Perry claims the offensive phrase had been painted over in the early 80's, but various sources claim otherwise, with some insisting the racist pet rock survived the Grunge Era, and even made it to through the Boy Band and Rap/Rock mix era.
Regardless of whether the racist rock died in the 80's, 90's, this last decade, or was mated with a homophobic yet closeted rock owned by Marcus Bachmann...(to form an uber racist/feminine Derrick Vineyard type Rock), we can all agree this is a legitimate story right?
On Sunday, Republican-and African American Presidential Candidate Herman Cain sure thought so. In fact he acted like a Republican who had gone insane...or in other words, he acted like a sensitive person who was rightfully outraged:
Cain said there "isn’t a more vile, negative word than the N-word and for him to leave it there as long as he did before, I hear, that they finally painted over it, is just plain insensitive to a lot of black people in this country. Since Governor Perry has been going there for years to hunt, I think that it shows a lack of sensitivity for a long time of not taking that word off of that rock and renaming the place".
Yea...that all sounds about right to me. Even Rush Limbaugh took time out of his busy being a deplorable human being schedule...to express his outrage.....about Herman Cain being outraged!?
Ok well anyway, then Mr. Cain met with Donald Trump on Monday because (this is the part of the sentence where the question "why" would be answered-only I have nothing to put here).
You can only stay outraged for so long...like less than 24 hours
Following his meeting with Trump, Cain was asked by reporters outside of Birther Tower about the racist rock:
"I really don't care about that word. They painted over it," he said, referring to a sign painted on a rock at the property the Texas Governor once leased. The Washington Post first reported Sunday that the slur appeared on the hunting grounds' gated entrance.
The matter "doesn't bother me at all," Cain added, emphasizing that he was satisfied by Perry's explanation of it and that he was "not playing the race card. I am not attacking Gov. Perry." The Perry camp has maintained that aspects of the Washington Post's report were "incorrect" and that the sign was painted over long ago.
So the only logical conclusion one can draw, is that during their meeting, Trump offered to throw his support behind Cain-if....if...he ran for the Nomination as an insensitive, crude White Man....say like Rick Perry. I don't see why the field needs two Rick Perrys, one seems to be failing just fine, but Cain appears to have taken the deal nevertheless.
I must add, can you imagine if a similar story had been uncovered about Candidate Obama in 2008? If Obama had a rock where even just the word "White" appeared? Or worse, if he had chosen to own a dark colored Rock as opposed to a pretty white rock like this ?
God I love these scandals involving rocks.
