I tried to blog about something else today, you guys, I really did.
Shrek the Musical opens tonight at the Cadillac Palace, A Parallelogram at
Steppenwolf is still going strong, The Philadelphia Story (which I'll
FOR SURE be updating y'all on in a few days after I see the fabulous
Laura McClain strut her stuff as the infamous Tracy Lord) opens
tomorrow night at Circle Theatre...
But it seems everywhere I click people are raving about Bailiwick Chicago's summer smash AIDA...how could I resist hopping on board?! After seeing the cast perform last night at Sidetrack, it's been really tricky to suppress how eager I am to trot down to American Theater Company wearing an "I <3 AIDA" sandwich-board and ringing a bell...these folks are incredible!
I won't bore you with the amazing reviews...you can read them yourself!
But I will say this (and I'll hardly be the first): World, watch out for Adrianna Parson! As Amneris, the Egyptian princess, her "Strongest Suit" knocked my short-summer-ankle-socks off Iast night...and that was at a crowded bar!
I worked with this jaw-dropping woman in "Hello Again" this past Spring, and she is a force to be reckoned with. Star power, beauty beyond belief, and a voice that makes you want to throw up your arms and scream "AAAHHH! GET IT!"
AIDA is playing at American Theater Company until August 1st.
