Christmas is officially over, and if you're anything like me, you're already feeling holiday-withdrawal. You're also feeling indigestion from eating way too much stocking-candy. Damn you, irresistible Trinidads!
Never fear! New Year's Eve is a mere 3 days away, and there is plenty to do if you feel like ringing in 2010 with your inner musical theater-geek. Embrace it.
If you're low key, and you feel like having a little nighttime fun before cozying up with your friends to watch the ball drop...check out New Year's Eve with E. Faye Butler and Her Trio at Northlight Theatre. It's an intimate evening of jazz, pop, show-tunes and blues, and it starts at 8 so there's plenty of time to get home and throw on your pajamas afterward. Plus, it's one night only and the chance to see E. Faye Butler in anything should not be passed up. She was absolutely amazing in Marriott Lincolnshire's recent production of Hairspray, and snagged yet another Jeff Award for her extraordinary work in Court Theatre's Caroline, or Change.
However, if you're in the mood for something rowdier, I'd suggest Theo Ubique Theatre's Cabaret New Year's Eve spectacular! Fifty bucks gets you entertainment, food, party favors, open bar (wooo!), and a midnight champagne toast. As a frequent guest at many post-show outings, let me warn you: these folks love to party! Be prepared.
Alright, that should get you started! Any other New Year's Eve suggestions?!

I'll be at Second City on New Year's Eve. They have shows on both the mainstage and the etc. stage. (I love the etc. stage for improv) Entertainment & a bar in the same room -- can't beat that!
I know that all of the big musicals have NYE performances. We looked at going to Addams Family and then out in the Loop, but my meager budget prevented that. :)
