Food Journal

I know every dietitian loves food journals and the reason is because it really works.  Whether you are trying to lose weight, eat healthier, find a food allergy, or just be more aware of what you eat, keeping track of it really makes a difference.  Yes, it is time consuming but it's easy once you get the hang of it.  You can journal in your smartphone or computer; there are many programs that will let you choose from a food back and count all your calories, fat grams, etc.  The key is to write every single thing you eat and try to be as specific as you can.  Keeping track of not only what you eat but how much of each food is eye opening.  You can also journal your mood and/or symptoms with your food intake so you can see if there are any patterns.   Try recording your food intake tomorrow and see if it sparks any changes or at least some goal setting.  You may realize that you eat the same thing everyday at the same time so maybe more variety is all you need.  Once you have a few days or weeks journaled, contact a Registered Dietitian to help you figure out what you need to get to your goals.
