Should I avoid carrageenan?

Carrageenan is a food additive used to thicken foods like dairy foods, non dairy alternatives. and even deli meat.  It has no nutritional value and some studies show that it can cause inflammation which can lead to heart disease, bowel disease, and cancer.   Check your ingredient label even if the food sounds like it's healthy; many low fat products contain this additive.  I first discovered it in the almond milk I was drinking.  The brand I was drinking not only had carrageenan in it, but also other unneeded additives and sugar.  Almond milk only needs water and almonds so check your ingredient labels for not only carrageenan but also other additives that may be unnecessary or that you don't recognize.
