The Body Book by Cameron Diaz and my favorite part...

At first I was like another "non-expert" writing a book about nutrition but I actually really liked the book.  It talks about what to eat, why to eat it, and keeps it simple.  The book also discusses exercise and why we should do it and other aspects of the body as well.  The message is holistic yet realistic and completely doable.   My favorite part is the message that you SHOULD eat carbohydrates all day every day.  They give you energy.  Of course this doesn't mean eat cakes and cookies all day; eat whole foods.  Here are some good ones:

  • fruits- all of them so don't worry about the glycemic index, just don't eat a whole watermelon at one time please!
  • vegetables- have some variety to get all the different nutrients
  • quinoa, millet, amaranth, barley, wheat berries, spelt, kamut, farro, brown rice, couscous
  • sweet potatoes
  • beans- all kinds
  • oatmeal- make from scratch
  • corn tortillas
  • yogurt- plain and add your own sugar
  • milk- dairy or non dairy
