Probiotics are living microbes that can provide healthy benefits. When taken in certain amounts, they can benefit your intestinal health and immune system. They are found in foods like yogurt, kefir, fermented foods like kimchi and they are also in supplement form. Probiotics are becoming so popular that there are foods being fortified with probiotics like snack bars and drinks. Probiotics used to be recommended for people who took antibiotics or who have intestinal diseases like colitis but now it's recommended for everyone. There is so much processed food out there and our intestinal health has taken a beating from our "not so healthy" diet. Although we have some of these good bacterias in our body, we can benefit from more. My recommendation is to start by incorporating these probiotic foods into your daily diet. It may be hard to work these foods in on a regular basis so consider a supplement. Look for Lactobacilli and Bifidobacteria on the label and studies show effective doses are between 100 million and one billion colony forming units (CFUs).
