Are the healthy food I'm eating preventing nutrient absorption?

Are you incorporating healthy foods like grains, beans, nuts, and seeds in your diet?  These foods are healthy and can be a great addition to a healthy meal plan.  But you may need to take some extra steps to make these foods worthwhile.  There is an anti nutrient in these foods called phytic acid, also known as phytates, that combine with important minerals like calcium, iron, zinc, magnesium, and copper and prevent absorption.  To prevent this or lower the percentage of malabsorption, you need to soak beans overnight in water (dried and canned), soak grains with warm water and an acid containing product like kefir, cultured buttermilk, or for vegans- lemon juice or apple cider vinegar, and soak nuts and seeds with water and a few tsp of sea salt.  For more specific information, check out this website: http://www.phyticacid.org/
