Eat breakfast like a king or queen, lunch like a prince or princess, and dinner like a pauper...This old aphorism still applies when it comes to calories in and expenditure out. Too many people skip or skimp on breakfast, setting them up for a day of nutrition deprivation and slowing the metabolic furnace that burns their calories. The key is to eat breakfast first, then eat a healthy breakfast second.
I prefer getting my daily quota of fiber early in the day to help the gut do its job. We all need 25 grams of fiber daily, and most Americans get a paltry 10-15 grams on average. Cereal is ubiquitous and I indulge in high-fiber cereals daily, my recommended ones with at least 5 grams of fiber per serving are Bran Flakes, Frosted Mini-Wheats and Raisin Bran. For those counting worried about sugar, Bran Flakes has only 1/3- 1/2 the calories of the other two, mainly because there is no sugar coating to the flakes.
