Resources for Nonprofit Job Seekers

Open door with businessmen

As the person who often answers the phone at the Axelson Center, I have had great conversations with hundreds of people looking for a nonprofit job. Some are recent grads. Others are what I call "sector jumpers": those wanting to leave the business sector or government for a meaningful career at a nonprofit. Here are a few great resources for those of you fitting either of those bills.

Idealist.org provides two useful guidebooks that are free to download. They contain great general information about the sector (what makes a nonprofit a nonprofit), and practical information about how to land the job of your dreams.

Another great Chicago resource is NPO.net. This is the largest nonprofit job board in Illinois, and it is free for job seekers.

To learn more information about the Chicago nonprofit community, join the Axelson Center's Greater Chicago Nonprofit Gateway. This is a free web portal that provides job listings, nonprofit tips, news and much more.
