Sometimes life is tough. Take today for example. I had to taste test six different ice creams and it was...the greatest day of my life!
Alright, slight exaggeration, but you would have thought it was Christmas in April today. First off, a delivery truck arrived this morning to drop off free samples of Magnolia™ ice cream. I already knew to expect them, but Franky had no idea what was going on.
"Mommy, what's in that box?"
"Oh this box? Just six pints of ice cream!"
"Ice cream?! Yay!!" (numerous jumps up and down)
Somehow I managed to convince Franky that we were going to wait until Lilia got home to try the ice cream. She had a friend come over today so I got to share my exciting news again.
"Hey girls, do you think you could do me a favor when we get home?"
"Well, I have six pints of ice cream that I need help taste testing."
"Yeah! Woo-hoo!" (screaming and more jumping)
We arrived home and got down to business. You see, Magnolia™ is all about interesting flavors. No plain vanilla here.
The flavors we taste tested were avocado, coconut, lychee, mango, purple yam and Thai tea. That's right folks. I said avocado and purple yam.
I had a method to our taste test session. I took out bowls, spoons and doled out bite sized servings. We all tried a round of avocado, then mango, then lychee and so on until we had tasted all six.
I was mostly excited about the Thai tea because, well, I love Thai tea. Thai tea has different variations, but essentially it's tea mixed with sugar, condensed milk and served over ice. This flavor was spot on. I thought for sure the kids wouldn't be fans, but it was one of their favorites.
The avocado was true to its name, but sweeter and more mellow than just eating a slice of avocado. The kids liked the flavor and the bright green color of this one.
Coconut and mango also got very high marks (and extra servings). I had no idea what to expect from the purple yam, but I think it tasted almost like pumpkin pie. The kids didn't care for this one, but I thought it was delicious.
One of our first adventures involved drinking lychee (a tropical fruit) juice which Lilia and Franky fought over until the last drop. I was surprised they didn't like the lychee ice cream today. They laughed when I told the pint not to worry because I would eat it all myself.
If I had to pick favorites, I would go with the Thai tea and mango. Lychee and coconut would also be perfect on a summer day.
Avocado and purple yam are a little more savory so I think they're the most unique flavors. If you prefer your dessert to not be overly sweet, these are right up your alley.
I'll admit, I had to dig into some of the ice cream again, just to make sure I got the flavors right. You know, for science.

Now if you'll excuse me, there's some Thai tea ice cream calling my name.
I received six free samples of Magnolia™ ice cream. I received no monetary compensation. The words and opinions reflected in this post are my own.
