This morning we spent some time in a warm tropical paradise, walked next to an orchid waterfall and then headed over to the desert. No, we didn't take a whirlwind vacation, but we did stop by the Chicago Botanic Garden for their newly opened exhibit, The Orchid Show.
This is their first ever orchid exhibition and with over 10,000 orchids, it was nothing short of phenomenal. We arrived when they opened their doors to the exhibit in the Regenstein Center greenhouses and galleries this morning at 10:00 a.m.
We first walked through the main gallery, which was filled with orchids and facts about these flowers. We then walked through the greenhouses, which had not only orchids, but numerous flora native to tropical environments. After we made our way through two tropical greenhouses, we walked through the desert greenhouse which was just as impressive.
These greenhouses would be gorgeous year round, but the juxtaposition of the snow outside with the vibrant colors inside was stunning. Did I mention how wonderful the flowers smelled and how warm it was? It is definitely worth taking a trip to see The Orchid Show. See the proof in the photos!
The Orchid Show runs from February 15-March 16, 2014, daily from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Chicago Botanic Garden. For more information, visit their website by clicking here.
