Lilia has taken to checking out cookbooks from her school library. She currently has one that's all about making fun snacks.
As soon as she got home from school she told me, "I know what our new thing can be!" I leaned in, "Do tell." I always like when she has a new idea, because I didn't exactly have a new adventure planned yet.
There was one recipe for loaded nachos (mmm, nachos) but we didn't have all of the ingredients. Finally, she she found one for spicy popcorn that seemed easy enough. The funny thing is I just saw a recipe for sweet popcorn today so we decided to make that too. I would normally call it kettle corn, but I think that's made in a slightly different way, so I'm sticking with sweet popcorn on this one.
We took out our air popper, which is always a hit. Popcorn shooting half into the bowl and halfway across the room always involves screaming and jumping up and down. Seriously, if you have younger kids and you don't have an air popper, I highly recommend one. It's pure entertainment.
Here are the two mixes we made. We used about 4 cups of popcorn for each. Just toss each mix with the popcorn while it's still hot.
1/2 to 1 tsp chili powder (to taste)
1/8 tsp garlic salt
1 tbsp Parmesan cheese
1/2 tsp kosher salt
1 tbsp granulated sugar
