It was an awesome evening. Legends de Soul brought it. The evening was hosted by Art Norman, of NBC and me. We showcased students past and presented the NDIGO 2012 scholars. They were bright, smart and beautiful. The baton was passed to yet another generation, making it 286 schoalrships awarded to Chicago youth.
Rick Odell introduced THE IMPRESSIONS. The trio of gentlemen were at their best as they sang old school music. The Impressions impressed, made some remember, and were introduced to another generation. They sang the songs of Curtis Mayfield and they brought forth the music of soul, as only they can do. A class act. Reginald Torian even appeared in all white, in Superfly. They were magnificent. They made the legends of soul come alive. It was a classical evening.
Comedian, Jonathan Siocomb, appeared as the special guest artist of Aretha Franklin. He is a straightforward clean comedian who just signed for Magic Johnson's network. He was imitating Rev. Jesse Jackson and from backstage Jackson appeared and Siocomb had to laugh at himself.
And then the Queen came. Aretha Franklin's vioce is awesome. It is a magnificent instrument and one that you hear once in a life time. She took us to church, she sang some of her favorites and proved why is a national treasure, who is about the business of her music. The show was a woman and her music.
The blue light after party was a good time by all. We danced the night away on the terrace looking over the lake.
The GALA was a great evening, beautiful people, fabulous music, great cause and a wonderful party afterwards.
Thank you all.
