Delicious Roasted Butternut Squash and Leek Soup Recipe

It is mid March in Chicago and there is still snow on the ground. As a life long Chicagoan I have endured many cold and snowy winters…just not during the same year. While this has been a very trying winter, the one positive, possibly the only positive, is that I have made lots of soups... Read more »

Whose lives have I touched? I want to have my Eulogy before I die

I was sitting in the synagogue waiting for the Rabbi to speak. My cousin passed away a few days earlier and today was her funeral. I looked around, so many people came to pay their respects. What was so amazing and touching was that most, including myself, came from across the country to be there. How... Read more »

A Letter to my Sons on their Birthday

Both of my sons’ birthdays are quickly approaching–one will 25, the other 27. I was thinking about that one night when I could not sleep. I was amazed by how time was moving so slowly that night yet how fast the years seemed to pass from my kids’ birth to the grown adults they are today.... 5 comments never to say to someone who's grieving

The phone rang. I had been home from the hospital a few hours and already people were calling. Hmm, did the surgeons insert a tracking device into me? I was finally home from the hospital after spending 4 days recovering and grieving from my surgery–I had part of my kidney removed due to kidney cancer. I... Read more »

How many people have you helped today, yesterday, in the past week?  I know what you are thinking—you are confident that you have helped someone, somehow. So what was it? How long does it take for you to come up with the answer? We are all so quick in offering help but are we as... Read more »

6 Great Tips to Prevent a Midlife Crisis

6 Great Tips to Prevent a Midlife Crisis
I just turned 52 years young, that’s right, young. Every birthday I take some time to reflect on my year– the good, the bad, the ugly. This year was a turning point for me. When I turned 50, it was a difficult birthday because I felt time was ticking away so fast and that I... Read more »

World Famous Giardiniera Recipe

I just picked the last serrano pepper from my garden and I am looking forward to making my world famous giardiniera recipe. This year I grew many types of peppers so that I could make fresh giardiniera. Giardiniera is a mixture of different fresh vegetables pickled in a vinegar/oil mixture.  Many people put it on... Nancy Chodash

I am a nurse practitioner who not only treats patients, but has had chronic illnesses including cancer so I understand how frustrating medicine can be. But through all this, I have never lost my sense of humor and my ability to make people laugh. I love to cook, and since becoming gluten-free a year ago, I have recipes for everyone's tastes whether it be healthy, decadent, vegetarian, or gluten-free. My philosophy is all about health, food, laughter and life!
