It seems these days everyone is trying to look their best on the outside as well as tidy up the inside with diet and exercise. Looking in the mirror and seeing something we are pleased with can build self-confidence to take on that task of putting more effort into our health. So start with your face and a daily regimen of good skincare. Here are ten ways to improve your face value and self esteem.
It’s a wash up! - Cleansing is key to good skin and starting each day. It only takes a few minutes. Products I’ve been using for cleansing include Vitaphenol’s four steps or purifying with a cleanser, Toning with a spray mist, repairing with a cellustructure anti-aging serum and hyrdating with a daily defense moisturizer.
Drink it in! - Drinking water and hydrating from the inside is key to good skin. The skin is the largest organ of the body and shows dehydration signs of peeling, flaking and dryness quickly. Once you’re thirsty, you are already in need of a glass of water. Especially in hot weather, remember to drink a few sips every ten minutes.
Shade it - The sun can burn through our skin and leave signs of aging faster than any other outside factor. It’s important to not only include a daily moisturizer with SPF of at least 15 but wearing a hat often can help reduce sun damage. Sitting in a shaded spot can help as well.
An apple a day - Actually apples and oranges are great to eat because they are high in fiber and antioxidants. But you can use them in your skincare regimen as well. Apples and oranges are key ingredients in many facial peels.
Giving your face the brush off - Using a light brush each morning like Clarisonic can help exfoliate your skin and allow your moisturizer to better sink into the skin. If you don’t have the Clarisonic brushing tool, use a dry brush to gently increase circulation and remove dead skin layers.
Spa at home - Today there are many companies that provide products like parafin and microdermabrasion as a way to improve skin tone and overall appearance. For the last four weeks, I have used an in-home microdermabrasion machine each week called Crystalift. My skin is smoother and younger looking as commented on by my producers. It feels smoother and glows when I apply my make up.
Get the glow - Increasing your cardio activity can bring blood flow to all muscles of the body including the face. After a great workout and shower, you’ll feel your face glowing and your body energized. Try for at least ten minutes of vigorous exercise each day.
A grain of salt - Remember that high sodium foods increase blood pressure and dehydration of the body. Try to reduce salt intake, eliminate table salts and processed foods as much as possible. ADA recommends no more than 1500 mg daily.
Type it out - Knowing your skin type is key to putting your best face forward. See a dermatologist to help guide you or skincare specialist. Knowing whether you are dry, sensitive, oily or normal is key in determining your best skin strategy.
Face up - It takes more muscles to frown than to smile and helps create a positive attitude as well. Keep your smile on your face and you’ll feel happier too!
