Well, there's a new mayor in town- how exciting! I've never given any thought to whether Mayor Daley likes music or what it might sound like, but Rahm is another story! He had a fundraiser at the House of Blues featuring Jennifer Hudson and is open about his love for Wilco. I am somewhat of a late bloomer on the Wilco scene; a couple years ago I discovered how much I love that band, which means that Rahm and I have an instant bond (Favorite song: "Jesus, Etc.". Favorite album: "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". What about you, Rahm?).
In the past, I have spent some time formulating playlists for other politicians, including Obama and Blagojevich. Disappointingly, neither had the courtesy to even thank me, much less give me any feedback about the songs I chose for them. Admittedly, Blago was evading prison at the time (well, waiting for the jury to return a verdict), and I found out that Obama has Reggie Love choose all the music for his iPod these days (lazy).
I don't want to downplay or discourage Rahm's love of Wilco, but since he's been chillin' in D.C. with the president lately, I thought I'd help him get back to his Chicago roots. What follows are some musicians and bands with local ties, followed by a world class playlist representing those artists. I think those who love music have a friend in the new mayor- I'm just giving him a gentle push in the right direction.
