Never knew it could look and feel so good-but EarthShare Illinois and their production team made it just that-with an outstanding presentation of the Revamped Fashion and Art Show dedicated to a greener society. Staged at Salvage One in West Town-the venue selection was most appropriate for harnessing the ideas of fashion and art in an environmentally sound and responsible way. Entering the place felt like being on the set of a film by Johnny Depp-truly a Salvage in Onederland-if you haven't been please go-it's a feast for the eyes and you'd never think recycling could be so cool.
Making my way through the gallery I came upon the celebrity Green(Red) Carpet and had the fortunate opportunity to meet Bianca Alexander-event MC and co-founder of Conscious Living TV. She was wearing an impeccable lavender gown composed of environmentally safe and natural materials. After realizing that we had worked together previously on a fashion show, she went on to explain that the majority today's manufactured garments-made of natural materials-are not made to be environmentally safe and suitable for recycling. She went on to explain, "One of my personal missions is to bring this to light and push to the forefront designers whose collections are natural, recyclable and safe-leaving the smallest carbon footprint on the environment."
Upon entering the second floor of galleries and loft space-this was where the real action was-the place was abuzz with chatter and anticipation. I have to admit I was there for the fashion show, beautiful people and specialty cocktails provided by event sponsor Brown-Forman. But within this experience, it was obvious the mission and it felt purposeful-we were all there to support greening our society in a very fashionable way.
After a brief introduction of EarthShare's by Natalia Petraszczuk-Revamped Committee Co-Chair and Celebrity Guest Speaker-Jillian Harris from ABC's Last Bachelorette guests were treated to an outstanding dance performance entitled "Unity" by Bespoke.org. And then we were presented an amazing fashion show-by participating designers Sofia Vintage, Dawn Bjork, Allison Dressing, Jenni Guarascio, Kelsey Heinger, Ogi Merzier, Sarah Trutter, Souk Supantavong, and Monica Wontorski. Each garment featured was made of fully recyclable and environmentally safe materials. And this in no way stifled the designers creativity. I had my favorites-of course-but most impressive was what could be done with biodegradable fabrics-there we no limits. You'll have to see for yourself in the photo slide show below.
EarthShare is on a mission we can all be proud to support-and they have made it apparent Green is in Style!
