"It was like a scene from Mission Impossible." That is how one witness described the incident.
Tom Cruise crashed his Ducati on Sunday, after trying to avoid a collision with an SUV that had run a stop sign.
The motorcycle spun out, throwing Cruise off. Witnesses said once he was back on his feet, he appeared to be limping.
Witnesses also said that he waited for paramedics outside KOI on La Cienega Blvd.
This made news because of the megastar who was involved in the incident. However, this is not an uncommon scenario for a motorcyclist. The majority of motorcycle accidents happen at intersections. Usually, it involves another vehicle misjudging the speed of the motorcycle and turning left in front of it. Millions of dollars are spent every year on ad campaigns sending the message to motorists to watch out for motorcycles. California Highway Patrol just began a huge motorcycle awareness campaign.
Often these drivers are distracted. Stiff measures have been put in place to deter motorists from using a cell phone while driving. However, there are so many other potential distractions. Please help spread the word to motorists to be alert when driving, focus on the task, and share the road with motorcycles.
