I knew it was only a matter of time before Tiny Dancer's "people" would turn one of his latest tirades on its head.  The new spin on Rahm yelling at two mentally ill people last week at a community meeting in Wicher Park?  It was their fault.  The mentally ill people.  They had no business being there, no business asking any questions about why their mental health clinic was closed, no business living, really.  What else could Rahm do but scream an admonishment at them more than a few times, that they'd better "respect" him!  Or else.

Well, this isn't the first indication that Rahm has ZERO tolerance for the mentally ill, the developmentally disabled or anyone else who isn't a billionaire with some cash to give him for his coffers.

Just a few years ago Rahm had to apologize for using the "R" word after getting mighty pissed off that some citizens were getting mighty pissed off that President Obama wasn't fulfilling some of his campaign promises. Rahm called them "fucking retarded."

Oops!  And don't take it from me.  You can read about the little twerp saying such a thing right here in the respectable media:  the Wall Street Journal and ABC News.

But I can tell you my own story of Rahm Emanuel lacking the slightest tad of compassion for anyone who's mentally challenged.

For the last 32 years, I have devoted my life to my daughter Molly, who is autistic.  Through these years, one incredible thing emerged about her.  She had amazing artistic talent.  And in 2006, she was fortunate enough to be accepted into an art studio for special needs adults at Chicago's Cultural Center called Project Onward.  This wonderful studio and gallery, in which the artists earn money through selling their work to big (and often famous) "Outsider Art" collectors, public institutions and others who just like it, today sustains 55 fine artists at the Bridgeport Art Center.

You can read about some of the artists here.  And what the studio is all about here.

The artists are constantly  broadcasted about and written up--in everything from the New York Times to Rolling Stone.  (Do a Google search--it's hard to believe how much publicity there is!)

Although the artists earn money, their special needs do require some skilled professional staff to help meander through the arts/business/media world. It's true that none of them is completely capable of making business deals or marketing the studio, per se--due to developmental disabilities and mental illness.

Compassionate and visionary members of the Daley administration recognized that fact and provided enough financial support so that the studio could thrive and the artists could earn a living.  This was to the City's credit.  Project Onward gave back more than they received, believe me.

Not so, though, when it comes to Rahm Emanuel.  Shortly after being elected, he cut the studio off.  And in spite of him giving out city money to support coffee roasters, exercise gurus, digital marketing companies, many Charter Schools that are no damn good and run by who knows who (they used to give the school bus contracts to the politically connected; now they give them the whole school), and just about every other rich Tom, Dick and Harry who wants to build a basketball stadium or a big hotel--he won't relent.

The studio has tried everything.  His pals have begged him, the politically connected have cajoled.  His wife even told the studio that her friends have come to their house and begged her to beg him to reverse his decision and reinstate the city's gift to the studio--at least until the studio can gain firm grant-supported footing through its new status as a 501 C3.  But all he says is NO.  Friends of the artists have even run into him around the city and confronted him on the subject.  Still, NO!

And I think I know why.  To Rahm, the artists don't vote.  Because, well, they're "fucking retarded."

But guess what, Rahm, they DO vote.  And guess who they're going to be voting for?  Jesus "Chuy" Garcia--a sincere and genuine man who will respect them for who they are.  Talented human beings trying to make a living.

Just another reason, folks, to scream to the high heavens, "I can't stand Rahm!"
