Bellator 25 Rundown

The Chicago Theatre was again taken over by the sport of MMA and the Bellator organization hosted their second event in Chicago this year. There were great fights throughout the night and the tournaments (Heavyweight, Woman's) all continued their brackets. Despite the small crowd the attendees were very loud and they voiced their opinion throughout the evening.

The night was full of surprises and nonstop action from the first fights to the last. The polish sensation Damian Grabowski took in his first fight in the United States and pushed his way to victory over Scott Barrett. Grabowski thanked the Chicago crowd for their warm welcome and helping him gain a unanimous decision. With that victory Grabowski moved on in the Heavyweight Tournament and is rumored to fight in the next month.

In the 115lb woman's tournament the matchup between Jessica Pene and Zoila Frausto was an exciting match up. Both women were pushing their limits in the fight with Zoila getting the upper hand at the closing of each round. Zoila picked up the victory and even though with a possible foot injury she moved on in the tournament.

In the feature fight of the night Dan Hornbuckle returned after Season 2 to take on former UFC roster member Brad Blackburn. During the fight Hornbuckle was noticeably taken back from Blackburn's strikes. At one time Hornbuckle was visibly stunned and looked to be losing the fight, however Hornbuckle had time to recover and responded. Hornbuckle used his quick combos and leg kicks to overpower Blackburn. The fight went to the judges' cards and Hornbuckle picked up the unanimous decision.

Bellator 25 was a great appearance by many fighters who may not have been known throughout the MMA scene and looking to move their way up the ranks. Hopefully, in the future Bellator can sell out the Chicago events and CEO Bjorn Rebney has stated he is always looking for ways to bring in more fans.

Notes: UFC fighters Clay Guida and Todd Duffee were both in attendance. Duffee was in the corner of Scott Barrett for his fight. Guida was given a big ovation when he was spotted on the stage. NHL player Brett Bellemore was also in attendance taking in the fights. Also spotted was famous Transformers actor Josh Duhamel sitting in the VIP section after a long day of shooting.
