The following is a week of review in the world of MMA from July 10th to July 17th. This will be a weekly thing here on MMA Disputed gathering the main stories of the week from around the MMA scene.
Jake Shields to The UFC
Rumors are heavily circulating that Jake Shields is very close to signing with The UFC. Jake Shields was originally part of the Strikeforce Company and after his fight against Dan Henderson he became a free agent. Shields at the time was currently the Middleweight Championship for the company and nothing has been said regarding the belt if he does indeed sign with The UFC.
If he does sign with The UFC Shields has told people close to his camp that he will drop down to the Welterweight Division (170 lbs) and his first match up could be against UFC veteran Mark Kampmann.
Payday for Bruce Buffer
Bruce Buffer who is the voice of the octagon is also an avid poker player. He entered the World Series of Poker main event this year where it is taking place at the Rio Hotel and Casino.. With 7,319 entrants in this year's tournament Bruce made a real run for the bracelet and finished in 478th place. His AA was beaten by 88 in where his opponent flopped quads and gave Bruce his exit. However he did come away with $27,519 and his first World Series of Poker payout.
Big John Returns to The UFC
The legendary MMA referee John McCarthy is set to make his return to The UFC with an appearance on the live card August 1st on Versus. Big John as everybody knows him has been seen doing man Strikeforce events the last few months. McCarthy did suspend his referee duties in November 2008 and went on to commentate for the Fight Network. The famous words "Let's Get It On" will be echoed throughout the octagon once again after a long layoff from The UFC.
With Season 3 about to begin for Bellator the company has added Eddie "The Manic Hispanic" Sanchez to its Heavyweight tournament. Sanchez is a well known UFC veteran and after a tragic car accident he seeked to become a MMA fighter. Sanchez joins Damian Grabowski, Neil Grove, Mike Hayes, and Scott Barrett for the competitors in the Heavyweight Championship that begins August 12th.
