Don't Forget the Pet Names!

What's in a name?

Apparently a lot of hidden meanings.

I was having a Google chat conversation with my husband today when I congratulated him on his latest achievement.

Instead of typing the usual (and somewhat obligatory) "Congrats Sweetie handsome sexy best husband in the universe", I just typed his name. We'll call him Wayne.

WTF why are you saying my name? You never do this. Is this my wife?

Sure, this is your wife. But she's not caving to the pet names today. You want to know why? Because I'm having a crap shit day. So because I'm having a poop day covered with pee sprinkles and cat vomit, I'm not going to call you sweetheart. Is that OK with you? Yep, I thought so.

Sometimes you gotta keep 'em in their place. Don't want the egos to get too big.

  • Several oddities here.

    1. Since your husband used to post here as Matt, he probably would be offended if you called him Wayne.

    2. Why married people have to chat through Google rather in person is beyond me. I gave up on IM in the AOL days when (a) I saw my nephew, maybe about 15 years ago, trying to do something on AOL, and all his friends barged in, making sure he couldn't do anything productive, and (b) when I was trying to use AOL, someone tried to horn in just because he was from the same town. So, in that one can now Tweet or Google it does not impress me.

    3. I thought pet names were like "Rover" or "Sparky."

  • 1. he loves the name Wayne. It's his middle name ;)

    2. We work a lot and don't see each other during the day, nor have time to sit on the phone during the day. It's way easier to shoot a quick IM and he can respond whenever he feels like it. Plus whatever I say is in writing so he can't forget ;)

...and can be used against you.

On a related topic, look at Feder's blog today about Kevin Roy. While being portrayed (as some commenters took it) as a psychotic, I took it that he was messing with people, and someone else took it as he was being hacked. Probably the latter.
