The headline says it all, really.

Pecha Kucha Chicago hosts it's 18th "volume" tonight, June 7. Those of you who are new to the events, Pecha Kucha comes from the Japanese term of "chit-chat" and is based on sharing creative ideas from several speakers in rapid succession. Think of speed-dating for creative people using slides, with a 6 minute 40 second time limit, or 20 seconds per slide, for each speaker. Topics can range from technology, art, architecture, urban planning and more, and the speakers are in the "creative" industry.

The idea behind Pecha Kucha has been around a while, and has a presence in most major cities. The reason behind their popularity probably comes from they way it manages to inspire others' creative ideas, which is really the point of the whole event. Pecha Kucha nights will leave attendees with new ideas and a refreshed feeling as there is sense of creative collaboration between all creative people in attendance. Also, it has an interesting mix of being part entertainment and part professional presentation.  It feels like a stand-up comedy show or a concert, with a spotlight on the creative professionals.

The 18th Chicago Pecha Kucha will feature eleven speakers. Speakers will include Deb Clapp, Daniel Freedberg, Mike Genge, Patty Huber, Annie Lambla, Obi Nwazota, Zack Ostrowski, Charlie O'Geen, Matt Blake, Michael Savona and a speaker from The Mobile Food Collective. For more information on the speakers for this evening, please visit the official 18th Pecha Kucha night Web site.

The venue will be Martyrs' in north Chicago as usual for one night only at 3855 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago on June 7th. The start time for Pecha Kucha is 8:20, but it's recommended you arrive early to get a seat. There is always standing room in the back for the late people!

There is no registration required though last March when the last Pecha Kucha event took place, it was sold out due to the amazing lineup of speakers.  There is usually a $10 cover charge to get in at the door, though it may or may not be sold out this time so tickets can be also purchased through the Web site.

Check the Pecha Kucha Website here for a full listing of the presenters and a map of the Martyrs' location. For full details on what Pecha Kucha is, and why it's become popular and important to creatives in cities for creative types all around the world, visit: http://www.pecha-kucha.org.
