Scott Sratten tells it how it is at Chicago "UnMarketing" book tour

Author Scott Stratten recently made a recent book tour stop in Chicago on Tuesday, November 2 at Rockit Bar and Brill downtown, for his new book "UnMarketing: Stop Marketing. Start Engaging."

Stratten made the stop as part of a special event hosted by Social Media Club of Chicago and Rockit Ranch Productions, where owner of Rockit Ranch, Billy Dec also made an appearance to introduce Scott.

Scott's "UnMarketing" book has made quite a splash by introducing methods that seem untraditional to most in the traditional marketing business, though now all that has changed with the introduction of social media. He also writes from a very humorous angle, while remaining true, and brings that to his book tour in person as he speaks.

His view on marketing is that the traditional methods are very indirect, and leaves a wide, uncaring gap between the customers and the company.

Explaining using social media, he made the point that "the reason why we spread [ideas] hasn't changed. The way we spread them has." and that "We've shifted the way we communicate."

Both statements are very true if one takes the time to think on them. The way companies do business now and with marketing to potential customers must change. This is because now all eyes are now on social media, the Internet, and the way we communicate has very much changed.

Chicago's "InteractiveAmy" or Amy Ravit Korin, made a mention in the book, as well as Ramon DeLeon, franchise owner of the successful Domino's Pizza chain of Chicago.

Both use social media to their advantage, as both know the value of speaking genuinely to others and being helpful while at the same time telling others of their business using online marketing.

In Chapter 20 of "UnMarketing", the story is explained where InteractiveAmy was not happy with a pizza order she received after being an hour late on delivery. Ramon DeLeon made a special video for Amy and uploaded it to the Internet. In the video he apologized and offered to completely remake the order for her.

This is a good example of what Scott Stratten tells in this "UnMarketing" book that companies must take customer service and acknowledge customers through the new media services. Be sure to pick up the "UnMarketing" book soon to discover a different approach to doing marketing, and to "give a damn about your company" and its marketing strategy, as Scott Stratten humorously explained.
