Pecha Kucha Chicago hosts it's 15th "volume" this Tuesday. If you've never been to one of these events before, Pecha Kucha comes from the Japanese term of "chit-chat" for sharing creative ideas from several speakers in rapid succession. Think of speed-dating for creative people using slides, with a 6 minute 40 second time limit, or 20 seconds per slide, for each speaker. Topics can range from technology professionals, to artists, to architects and more. The only rule is that they are in the "creative" industry and have something interesting to say!
September's Pecha Kucha will feature ten speakers, more than the usual amount. Pecha Kucha has been around a while and every time it manages to inspire others' creative sides no matter which topic is being discussed, and there is quite a range of topics and speakers this time around.
Speakers will include, as described on the Pecha Kucha official site, "architectural provocateur Ed Keegan, the comedic Daniel Shore, T.J. Thomas of Studio Murmur, landscape architect Peter Schaudt, young architect Carl Sergio, actor, historian, and Chautauquan Annette Baldwin, fisherman Phil Santoro, artist and School of the Art Institute professor Claire Ashley, graphic novelist Sean O'Neill, and Rick Valicenti of Thirst/Chicago fame. Rumor has it that the tattooed and large haired Zak Baker will also re-appear. The official edible poster of Volume 15 is designed by Rachel Yas. Architect Peter Exley and visual conceptualizer Thorsten Bösch will emcee the evening."
The venue will be Martyrs' in north Chicago as usual for one night only at 3855 N. Lincoln Avenue, Chicago on Tuesday September 7. The start time for Pecha Kucha is 8:20, but it's recommended you arrive early to get a seat. There is always standing room of course. There is no registration needed, just show up, but there is usually a $10 cover charge to get in.
Check the Pecha Kucha Website here for a full listing of the presenters and a map of the Martyrs' location. For full details on what Pecha Kucha is, and why it's become popular and important to creatives in cities for creative types all around the world, visit: http://www.pecha-kucha.org.

Netsquared Camp. Same day as Bears opener. There's some epic bad planning.
I agree with that, though I suppose there's always some hard working Chicago nonprofits out there who like to have the option to learn social media, no matter what day!
