ChicagoNow blog writers and contributers celebrate one year of the online Chicago community news idea.

The experiment that began as ChicagoNow a year ago and a bit more began last August 12, 2009. Now, according to this official ChicagoNow staff blog post, the Web site is home to more than 300 blogs written by real Chicagoans that live around the city.

Having several different topics discussed by Chicagoans with enough expertise to accurately cover a topic was a new idea for any type of media or journalism organization. In fact, ChicagoNow went on to be mentioned by the popular social media news Website, Mashable.com, as one of the five "Innovative Websites That Could Reshape the News" for the future.

After just a year being live, in August 2010, the Website already has thousands of visitors and participants in it's online community that add to the local community interaction by providing comments for each story. This is what makes it a unique venture into online journalism by allowing Chicagoans to write about their own local Chicago news and share it with others.

Experiencing such growth and real interaction was reason for the ChicagoNow blogger community to come together to celebrate last Tuesday in person.  There was quite a turnout as expected on August 24, 2010 at the Goose Island Brewery on Clybourn. The ability to write about experiences in real-time on the Internet, then carry that interaction to real life is part of the magic of ChicagoNow's continued success.
