Coming out party hosted by gay-welcoming church

Urban Village Church

The news lately is full of young people being bullied into exclusion or suicide because they're gay, lesbian, or transgender. In the midst of this hatred and fear, a new Chicago based church is at the forefront of doing something about it.

Urban Village Church, a brand new church with Downtown and Wicker Park campuses--wants the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered communities know that they believe God welcomes absolutely everybody. "Being LGBT is not a barrier to grace, leadership, or full participation in the life of our Christian community" says Urban Village co-pastor, Trey Hall. "Our sexuality and gender identity are gifts from God."

To that end, Urban Village Church is hosting a coming out party this evening at Boystown favorite, Sidetrack. LGBT community leaders, allies and the pastors of Urban Village Church will be on hand to meet, greet and discuss community issues.

Finally there is a church that is welcoming to the LGBT community. If you can't make it to the party, follow Urban Village Church on Twitter @uvchurch or their website:
