Equality Illinois, the state's largest organization advocating for full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people, announced the launch of its innovative get-out-the-vote efforts, capitalizing on new changes (ANY registered voter can now vote absentee) in Illinois election law. The effort, in coalition with Roosevelt University and Rock-The-Vote is called Vote Naked Illinois.
Now there is zero excuse for folks not to vote. Voting absentee is so damn easy; one can even do it naked! Think about it, you're in the privacy of your own home and wearing natures own; why not take a moment to impact your community!
Recent change in Illinois election law now makes it possible for voters to request no-excuse absentee ballots, allowing voters to cast a ballot from the privacy of their own home.
Voting by mail is easy:
1) Fill out an absentee ballot application
2) Turn it into your county
3) When a ballot arrives in the mail, cast your votes and send it in.
Here's where Vote Naked Illinois comes in. You can go to www.votenakedillinois.org to sign up and have a ballot application sent to you. Then, either mail it in...or even better, join or host a Vote Naked event! They collect ballot applications at these events and will turn them in all at once.
Fueled by a dynamic social media campaign, including ChicagoPride.com; Vote Naked Illinois plans to turn out thousands of absentee ballots. The organization is also urging supporters to plan their own Vote Naked organizing events to encourage ballot applications.
Absentee ballot applications can be turned in from September 23 until October 28 by mail and until November 1 in person. Vote Naked Illinois voter outreach services are available without regard to the voter's political preference. Information or other assistance regarding registering or voting, including any services offered, shall not be withheld or refused on the basis of support for or opposition to particular candidates or a political party.
There it is! There's now no excuse for not voting. As a member of the LGBT community I can ASSure you that we really need everyone to "come out" and vote in the next election. There are a number of folks who'd like nothing more than to revoke the rights we've won and prevent our future victories.
This Friday stop on by Minibar Ultra Lounge and Cafe and join the Minibar boys as they fill out vote by mail applications. The folks at Ultimat Vodka will be hosting a cocktail reception for from 9-11PM.
Let's get naked!
