Ghostbusters 3 = Another Unwanted Sequel

I liked Ghostbusters. At least I liked the original film. To say that I want a sequel is about the same as wanting cancer. Sure, there's some perverse excitement in me that is wondering what could come from a third Ghostbusters film. Then I think of Beverly Hills Cop III.

The project has been mentioned for years. It's currently somewhere between being on again and then possibly off again. Some of that has to do with the age of the original actors and the original director. I can certainly see there point: a movie about chasing ghosts doesn't actually require memorable characters.

All you need for this sequel are a bunch of ragtag young folks who take on the job of ghost hunting from the previous generation that did it first. It's a nice sellable way to justify the sequel and could boost sales of the previous two films (as well as everything else Ghostbusters). The problem with Ghostbusters is that a television show on The CW does the exact same thing.

Supernatural is the Ghostbusters of the new generation.

Considering that The CW has renewed the show for another season, why doesn't Hollywood just make a Supernatural movie? This generation who grew up on the shows of their time would be more interested in seeing a film of the Winchester brothers than a film about a few old guys coming out of retirement for one last hurrah.

I don't even think Bill Murray is all that interested in a third film and didn't seem all that pleased about doing the second one back in 1989.

Let the Ghostbusters franchise stay in the 1980's and hand over the duties of ghost chasing to the more now universe of the Winchester brothers.

  • They're running out of ideas! They probably want to do it to see what they can create with the CGI technology we have now. This entry is featured in today's "Hot on ChicagoNow:"

  • Leave it in the 80's are you fu*^ing kidding me? So we can watch another brilliant movie like the tooth fairy or that god awful cinematic garbage shutter island? And the Winchester brothers can suck a fat one. Nothing but a bunch of pretty boys on the god awful network that brought you the "new" 90210 and gossip girl. Ghostbusters 3 deserves to be made!
