Attention Will Smith: Stay Away From Alfred Hitchcock

I'm not a Will Smith hater. He's a
good actor and a likeable rapper. When it comes to producing projects for
himself and for his family, Smith should take on original material rather than remakes.
Having already warmed over a 1980's franchise with The Karate Kid remake, Mr.
Smith wants to take on Alfred Hitchcock by remaking Suspicion.

Smith isn't stupid. I don't think
he's going to keep everything that made the original what it was without
tweaking it to a more modern setting. The changes he made to The Karate Kid
with the remake suggest that he was aware he had to separate the old from the
new.

Alfred Hitchcock is not John G. Avildsen.
You don't have karate and a wise sensei to back you up when things go wrong.
Most Hitchcock movies without Hitch's style of direction would seem very
ordinary in the hands of someone else.

Psycho for instance, without Hitch behind the wheel, would
be nothing more than a disposable B-picture. With his imagination and skillful
way of playing with the camera, a would-be average thriller became a
masterpiece. I don't see that kind of quality coming from the likes of Mr.
Smith.

Will isn't going to listen to me. He's got money. He's
certainly got the power to do what he wants. I do think a man of his position
should shoot for more original ideas.

I'm just saying.

  • *I've seen the "Psycho" TV movie remake (Vince Vaughn sucked as
    Norman Bates;
    *I've seen Disturbia (a knock-off of "Rear Window") with Shia
    LeBeuf...and not good;

    Yeah...Will should probably tread lightly on Hitchcock's legacy.
