"The Music Man" opened at Chicago's Goodman Theatre this month, and that's had me thinking about bringing one of its songs up to date. Here's my take on "Good Night, My Someone," 2019 style.

Good night, my someone, good night, my love,

sleep tight, my someone, sleep tight, my love,

our phones are shining their bright blue lights

for all night, my friend, for all night!

Sweet dreams be with you, if dreams can be

so sweet with a phone so close to see.

I wish they may, and I wish they might,

so good night, my someone, good night!

True love can be sent now from phone to phone

The cellular companies all say

But I must depend on the phone all alone

as long as I can't see where you are today.

Good night, my someone, good night, my love!

Sleep tight, my someone, sleep tight, my love!

My battery's dying, it's time to part --

so good night, o friend of my heart!

Good night....

Good ni --

  • Lovely song--and a wonderful post. Well-done!

  • In reply to Weather Girl:

Thank you. It's a favorite of mine, so I enjoyed playing with the words.

  • Professor Hill. Now there's a con man to love. Not like the depraved peddler of hate, the abominable Mr. Trump.

On a brighter note, the Music Man is right there in the pantheon of Broadway ,musicals. Thanks for your homage of it.

Thank you. At least Harold Hill was only -- only! -- trying to make money. I'm glad you enjoyed my little tribute to one of the better parts.
