While many youngsters are going to Lollapalooza, many will also attend the Soulful Chicago Book Fair this Saturday, August 3, 2019 from 10am to 8pm. It's located at 61st street between Cottage and King drive. Not only will I be there celebrating my 1st book Victims of Change, there will be music and other performances and black authors from across the country!
This will be such a great event because it gives you the opportunity to actually hold a book into your hands again. It's also a great opportunity for young black children to see someone who looks like them inside the pages they're reading, as well as adults relating to the fiction and non-fiction stories of the adult authors.
My book Victims of Change was written in 2006 was inspired by living in an urban environment, watching and interacting with the goings on with the other people in the projects. It wasn't my intention to write my book--it started off by keeping a journal. I was recovering from a lupus flare and reading and writing has always been my passion. Keeping a journal was a way to kill time in addition to being therapeutic.
Victims of Change is a money versus morals story of a single mom forced to choose between stripping or smuggling drugs, when it comes to paying for her disabled child's school tuition. It's full of suspense with an unexpected ending and best of all, no profanity so it's great reading for preteens and of course adults. So come out and have a great time and I look forward to seeing you there; I'll be at booth F10 near the stage!
