Did Robin Thicke blur the line?

People such as Ol' Skool and House Heads knew right off the bat that Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" is a rendition of Marvin Gaye's "Got To Give It Up." We all have copied someone to an extent or else we wouldn't be human. The only time it becomes a problem is when we deny it, such as Thicke is allegedly doing. Even so, Thicke's rendition is still topping the charts. The reason why is because those who know better is reliving the joy Gaye's song brought them during that era.

Authenticity is the key to a happy and satisfied life. Being real and true is the greatest thing you can do for yourself. It cuts out the middleman of seeing a therapist, drinking alcohol or using drugs (prescription or illegal), to cope with the pain of being something you're not. If you are not sure who you are, backtrack to the time when you felt really good. This should be a time when you did what you wanted without fear of what someone else thought.

Somewhere along the way of life, we all have compromised our beliefs and how we felt about ourselves. It was either in the name of love from our significant other or acceptance from a group of people. If you are not being the true person you are, ask yourself "Is this person or group of people worth it?" Or, "Is keeping this job worth my integrity?"

Of course times are hard financially and in some cases you may have to go along to get along. I'm sure that most people want to scream and pull their hair out over the things they witness at work. The same thing applies to their friends and in a grimmer vein, their church congregation. There was a time when going to church was a safe haven from all the madness going on in the world. Now, sad to say for some, churches compose of the same backstabbing, gossiping, and two-faced people they encounter otherwise.

When it comes to your well-being, make sure you don't blur the line by engaging in things you normally would not do, for the sake of others. My close friends can attest that my favorite quote is, "I like to sleep at night." I have already spent two decades or more pleasing people, losing sleep wondering what I did wrong or if I met their expectations.

I'm now in a restful state of mind as I dedicate my time and emotions toward people and things that matter.
